‘You will do the works that I do’

With the rise in spiritual experimentation in our society, we see an increasing determination on the part of churches to offer a safe, effective and powerful ministry of healing in the name of Jesus. In His Name offers a contemporary navigational aid for churches and Christian groups wishing to offer healing prayer to those suffering physical ill health, emotional dis-ease and spiritual oppression. Although the authors are careful to build a proper foundation in terms of both theology and good practice, the emphasis is on equipping  the participants to engage in an active ministry of healing – this is a deliberately hands-on course, focussed on making a difference in the lives of those who pray and of those who receive prayer.
Fully illustrated and containing ice-breakers, practical exercises, group prayer times and many real life stories of healing, In His Name is designed to be easy to use. We would be happy to talk with you about how we may support you in running the course or developing the healing ministry in your church – we can provide people to lead some or all of the sessions, we can provide phone support, or we can lead a healing weekend or speak at a healing service to help launch the new ministry in your church.

Course contents

The course is divided into 8 sessions:
1.  A biblical introduction to healing
2.  How do we pray? The role of the Holy Spirit
3.  Praying for physical healing
4.   Praying for inner healing
5.   Diagnosing deeper problems
6.   Ministering the truth
7.   Complexity and common sense
8.   Stepping out in faith

The authors

John and Alison are both well-known authors with wide experience of the healing ministry in the UK and abroad. They combine a characteristically no-nonsense approach with a firm expectation, based on experience, that physical, emotional and spiritual healing is meant to be part of the living reality of every Christian life.
Piloted in Holy Trinity, Leicester over a period of 10 years, the course is available in packs of 1 Leader’s Manual and 10 participants’ coursebooks, at a cost of £40. The Manual is an A4 wire-bound book designed for easy use by the course leader, and the coursebook is a 72 page A5 booklet containing session notes, additional exercises and testimonies. Both the Manual (£12) and the Coursebook (£4) are available separately.
First published in 2008 and now on its third printing, In His Name has been widely used in local churches and is the recommended course in a number of Anglican dioceses.

Commendations

‘Far and away the most balanced, informed, practical guide for church healing teams. The authors have seen much healing –  physical, psychological and spiritual, and have the theological and biblical underpinning to ground it. The course is interactive, beautifully  written and has been tested over ten  years. Simply invaluable.’ – Canon Dr Michael Green
‘Following on from the open evening we ran the “In His Name” course and had over forty participants, which attracted participants from other local churches and was widely spoken of it as one of the best things St Paul’s had ever done. – Revd Chris Spittle, Skelmersdale, Lancashire
‘I would like to pass  on to Alison how grateful we are for the training course ‘In His Name’.  We presented it over eight weeks to our fairly inexperienced Prayer Ministry Team.  We felt it covered everything we needed to – and more.  We are a Methodist church and want to expand our prayer ministry – this course has been a great launch pad’ – Pat Oakley, Felbridge , West Sussex
‘This a well thought out course, ‘comprehensive’ in the best sense of the word, exploring matters both practical and spiritual in a down to earth and easy to understand way. This is a publication that both challenges as well as affirms, and to quote from the text, “sees Christ as wanting to set people free not wanting simply to cheer them up.”  I commend Alison and John’s work and experience to Churches and Prayer Ministry Teams both existing and new’ – Revd Matthew Thomson (Bishops’ Advisor in healing and wholeness for the Diocese of Bath and Wells).
‘This course is going brilliantly, best course I’ve ever done, people getting so much out of it themselves.’ – Revd Denise Hayes, Litherland
